Everyone wants to look younger these days and in our quick fix society, that most likely means botox.  Before a person goes injecting themselves with botox, there are some things to consider.  The following information can help a person be aware of these botox risks.

First, learn what botox actually is.  One should also be aware that there are botox risks.  Botox injections are actually Botulinum toxin type A.  Sounds yucky, right?  Well, considering that this is the same bacteria that causes botulism, yes, it sounds disgusting.  This is the same bacteria that causes food poisoning.  Imagine that.  We use anit-bacterial hand soap and gel, some of us who've ever had a mild case of food poisoning will avoid eating at the same restaurant again for quite some time, yet there are those willing to inject themselves with the same stuff.

Since botox injections are made up of bacteria, and the body is designed to fight certain bacteria, the affects wear off after about three months and another injection is required to maintain.  While botox injections are sometimes used for real medical conditions, it is also used to lessen the appearance of wrinkles.

Botox risks include trouble breathing, talking, or swallowing, drooping eyelids, unusual or severe muscle weakness (especially in a body area that was not injected with the medication), problems with vision or depth perception, crusting or drainage from your eyes, severe skin rash or itching, or even chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, general ill feeling.  This is due to the fact that botox blocks nerve activity in the muscles and lessens muscle activity.

Botox related injuries and infections occur on occasion and some patients have be hospitalized and ventilated.  Knowing botox risks are very important even though the use of botox for cosmetic purposes has less chance of causing these issues.  Be aware that there is still the possibility and that these are risks none the less.

Botox, although handled safely by physicians, should not be taken lightly and additional research should be done by those considering botox injections.  People should always be aware that using any substance that is foreign to the body can have some sort of negative affect on that body and be fully educated regarding that foreign substance no matter how harmless it may seem.
